Could not agree more James.
My whole teenage years was spent in the bush around Sydney, and a machete was the do all tool , a knife was nesessary for finer things , but for work around the campsite the machete does everything,I would say the only other tool that does as well is a tomahawk , especially if it has a hammer face opposite the cutting edge, that’s the only thing I couldn’t do with a machete, hammer a peg in, both will do as a weapon , and are easily sharpened , that’s something I don’t hear on survival sites, how easy is it to resharpen your knife, try resharpening a serrated edge knife friggin impossible . A machete or a tomahawk can be brought back to sharp with just a few strokes of a fine file
all the best

Thx for this great article.
I am writing a blog about the best cooking knifes in germany.
Survival knifes are a very interesting topic too, but still not like in the UK.
Its a shame, you are not allowed to have survival knifes here in germany, which have a longer knife blade, then you palm 🙁
I am sure, in case of emergency no one will take care about this law, but a good knife can always be helpfully, not only in emergency case.
