That is, you could have a perfume bottle in your bag as long as it is not carried as a weapon, but buying a water pistol and filling it with perfume would be illegal. Crazy, but thanks to the control grid, that is the current state of the law in the UK.

It is precisely similar to carrying a spray can of water-based paint. Harmless and therefore legal. Also the same as the dye that comes out of a cash-in-transit cash box and this is accepted by the police. Don’t take any crap from the police on this; they have a vested interest in having you become a victim. They would always prefer to say that they are “trying to find the person who committed this terrible crime” rather than have a person successfully defend themselves. Recent court cases have fortunately tended towards the citizen being protected from prosecution, but it never stops the police from trying to get a conviction.
