Big Prepping Year Ahead
Happy New Year Fellow Preppers.
Each new year brings some fresh challenges to us preppers. Not least is planning out the year ahead and how to make the most of our available time.
There’s survival and bushcraft shows to go to. There’s bug out practice and kit bag improvements to be made.
And working out what new gear to get and how much new supplies need adding too.
During January is when all the big thinking goes on!
All fired up and with a clear head, you can now approach prepping with a new gusto. This year is going to be a time to learn new survival skills and add gear to your pack.
As I always say, never underestimate the power of a list!
A list is worth it’s weight in gold. Make a sensible, do-able list and stick to it. Put a budget to it and really try and stick to that as well.
Yes, I know it’s difficult. Your at a show and there’s this really great bit of kit that would make your survival life so much easier. It’s a bit dear, but well, bugger it – and bam… a months prepping budget has just been blown on one item.!
We have all done it. I know I have. Most of the time I try and justify it, and I know I should of held back but there you go.
Prepping toys and boys – you just gota have them.
Newbie Preppers Start Here.
If you’re new to prepping and need a help working out just how you start I would suggest sniffing around the general prepping category section here at the UK Preppers Guide website. Alternatively I recommend a very good Ebook, “Prepping Guide For Newbie Preppers”. It takes you through the first years planning and preparation of how to start prepping for an emergency disaster.
Summer time prepping
Most of the good prepping shows are during the summer months and I always budget for having a few bob to spend there. You always find bargains.
The bring n buy stall at the Bushcraft Gatherings Show is always full of new and second hand gear, and topped up each day.
There’s always good equipment for sale there from a few bob to hundreds – but, trust me, you’ll get a bargain.
So add that one to your list. In fact add them all – they are all excellent.
So get yourself prepared for the year ahead.
If there’s something you have wanted to do, then make it happen.
Slot it into this years plan and work towards it. Even the simplest of tasks will all add up at the end of the year.
Last year I set myself the task of doing at least three stealth camping trips. I watched a few YouTube videos from people who had done this before. But even being prepared I still found it quite a challenge.
In fact, it was no where near as easy as it’s made out to be and was quite an eye opener for me. I learnt loads. Or more correctly, I learnt loads about what not to do! A great experience and I will be doing some more this year too.
Last year I really got to grips with basic fire making using only foraged materials. Another skill, that until you try it, you’ll be amazed at how hard it can be. Sure I could always ‘sort of’ do it and it always ‘sort of’ worked. But after many years it was time to truly master it.
As I write this now, I am beginning to lay down my 2015 prepping list. No doubt I will go over things from previous years and no doubt I will plan new things.
But one thing is for sure – I will definitely plan it out. You should too.
