Do You Suffer From Prepper Burnout and Fatigue ?
Overthinking & Overplanning your prepping plan is the most common reason for Prepper Burnout and Fatigue
Why do we all prep?
The reasons may differ, but the basic concept is universally the same - we are prepping in case something disastrous happens. We prep to be ready.
There is a common misconception that we are sitting waiting for that disaster to happen, just so we can say, "told you so"..! To most of us that's the furthest reason from the true.
Most UK Preppers I know do so because they actually enjoy it - they enjoy the leaning and the knowledge that comes along with building up your stores and equipment, and learning new skills to put into practice. Prepping to many is a good hobby that will save you life!
My personal prepping reasons stem from the fact that I genuinely believe the chances of a high level catastrophe are very possible in my lifetime - with a full on economic global collapse as being my number one concern.
I calmly watch and see what's happening, as thing change on a day to day basis, but I still prep for most disaster scenarios.
But... for some people watching and waiting is not enough, I know because I to have suffered this "Prepper Fear" of not having enough supplies and equipment and skills to be fully ready.
Think about it - That's the very reason you start prepping in the begining, to be ready for anything.
But thats the very thing that will hit you with Prepper Burnout and Fatigue.
How do you recognize Prepper Burnout and Fatigue.?
Your normal day to day living is stressful and this certainly contributes, but a more pressing reason will originate from an actual lack of disaster - a lack of the very thing you are prepping for!
Inwards stress that is liable to cause prepper stress and burnout is not a result of some external force, but a lack of it.!
To our rescue we have the fact that we can actually control the stress as the perceived disaster has not happened yet and we are taking precautions to ensure our safety when it does.
But, your levels of prepping stress can be compounded by setting yourself specific dates along a timeline that are both unrealistic and unachievable, simply adding to your stress.
Your urgency to complete tasks and failing is another factor along the road to prepping burnout.
These levels of prepping stress can easily lead to complete disappointment in your very own abilities to prepare for the unknown - exhaustion, frustration and disillusionment will soon creep in to the point where you feel is it all worth it.?
What to look out for with prepper burnout
- Forgetting Important Stuff
You moments of total whiteout - not your normal forgetfulness, real problems remembering. - Tiredness & Fatigue
The most common symptom - you simply get tired of prepping, tire of talking about prepping and tired of doing any prepping - Worried & Anxious
You worry about all the 'what ifs' - always thinking about a new plan or strategy. - Depressed
The world hasn't ended - you were sure it would and all your hard work was for nothing. Some preppers get depressed when world changing events fail to happen. - Illness
The final blow - all your sleepless nights, all your plans and all the prepping supplies you have amassed, all the planing, all for what?
Your tired and fatigued, worried and now depressed - no wonder your ill..!
How do you cope with prepper burnout and Fatigue.?
We all start prepping for some reason.Something spurs us on to take more precautions for a possible future event.
And then what happens.? - Nothing. Nothing at all. That event doesn't happen.
I am quite surprised that the dozens of different religions that have predicted the end of the world and still do are not full of depressed people..!
These, so called, religious events have never, and will never happen. The same as me or you predicting the next ice age - and yet thousands of people believe them and prepare for that doomsday.
EVERY DOOMSDAY EVENT I HAVE EVER PREPPED FOR HAS NEVER HAPPENED
And, for all we know a doomsday may not happen in your lifetime. So why get yourself so consumed to the point of burnout.
You have to remember - its a marathon, not a sprint.
Enjoy your prepping and enjoy all the new skills you are learning - it's not a chore, or something that must be completed by a certain date.
Take a step back and make a new plan - things change, change with them and always be evolving and make your prepping work for you.
Take the odd prepping break now and then. Recharge the old batteries and your good to go again. It's not all about you, your not going to save the world.....
Regroup and re-evaluate you current prepping situation and your prepping life - why it is or isn't working and make a new prepping plan to suit. - set new goals that are achievable.
Finally, and oh so more importantly - you are prepping to help save you and your families lives in a disaster. These are the people you are trying to protect and make safe. But if a doomsday never comes, you have just spent your life trying to protect them and no time with them.
If you simply put your prepping into perspective with your family life and make it an enjoyable hobby, that, one day might help save all your lives, then you have a very good chance of never, ever experiencing prepper burnout and fatigue.
As we say - Don't Sweat The Small Stuff ...
Prepping is about planning for the unknown, preparing for the worse and wishing for the best.
Happy Prepping Folks.
